Understanding The Seven Chakras

Being in quarantine (4 weeks but who’s counting) has opened my eyes, my mind, and my heart to a bigger world beyond an apartment. For instance, I’ve been meditating regularly, something I had never done before in my life until now. It has opened up a lot of new feelings and wisdom that I didn’t even know I had within me. My witchy sister suggested we clear our chakras and to be totally honest, I had no idea what that even meant. I had heard of chakras before, but never took the time to understand what they are, their purpose, or what “clearing” them looks like. I agreed to a guided meditation that went through each one, and as I imagined these chakras, I began to grasp the idea.

Everything has energy

everything has energy text

Everything on this earth is made up of matter. If you look at any given object close enough, you’ll see that everything is moving. Colors, sounds, materials, cells.. Even the shoes put away in your closet are moving if you were to take a microscope and examine them close enough.

Imagine your body from the inside. Our hearts pump blood and move it throughout our veins. The lungs take in oxygen from the external world and send it to our brain. Our brain sends rapid signals constantly to our entire body. This wondrous machine runs on energy and vibrations from sources beyond our own control. Imagine each section of this machine and its roles and duties for functioning. Now imagine each section has its own current of power to it. These are the chakras. They govern the physical and metaphysical energies of our bodies and function as power sources. As with any machine, if the power is low or cut all together, the system doesn’t perform at its highest capabilities and may even begin to shut down.

Clearing & energizing the chakras

Just like a crystal absorbing and giving off energies, our chakras can get “clogged”. We recharge them by focusing our minds on them which opens them up and energizes them through vibrational energy. We can also use crystals on these points to give our chakras energy in the physical form.

When our chakras are clear and energized, we have good health and overall well-being. Therefore, it is a good indicator that when our health is declining or we are not in a good state of mind, a chakra may be blocked from sharing its power source to the body.

The seven chakras

This post is going to get into a simplified version of how I personally understand the seven chakras.

For each chakra I’ll explain:

  • where the chakra is located in the body
  • the element ruling its energy
  • the color of the chakra
  • its “charge”
  • how to know when it’s blocked (through fear vs. harmony)

Root chakra

root text

We’ll start from the first chakra called “root” as it connects us to the Earth which we live on. This chakra is located at the base of your spine. Its color is red. Its element is Earth, since gravity is the force that rules this planet in which we live on. The Earth element rules material things that we can physically touch.

This chakra charges our basic needs and connection to the physical world. It is the first chakra because we must always first take care of our basic needs such as food, shelter, and safety. When we fear death, it is a good indicator that this power source is low.

Energize this chakra by imagining its red color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing red – full of power. Remind yourself that you are grounded to this earth and alive by repeating the mantra, “I am safe.” A harmonious root charge will allow you to remember all that you already have, and release a feeling of gratitude.

Sacral chakra

sacral text

The second chakra is called “sacral”. Its color is orange. It is located in our reproductive system, where life begins for all of us. Water is its element as water is the source of all life. The water element rules emotions and feelings.

This chakra charges our sexuality, emotions, pleasure, and creativity. Our bodies are made mostly of water, making this chakra an important power source that must keep its flow. When water becomes blocked, the flow becomes stagnant and becomes a breeding ground for disease. Our chakras work the same way. When we hide our emotions in fear of appearing overly sensitive, become sexually aggressive, or lack creative flow, it is a good indicator that the sacral chakra is not allowing circulation of its charge.

Energize this chakra by imagining its orange color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing orange – full of power. Remind yourself that you are the source of life and life itself by repeating the mantra, “I am life”. A harmonious sacral charge will open creative flow, and allow one to feel comfortable as their most authentic self.

Solar Plexus chakra

The third chakra is called “Solar Plexus. Its color is yellow and it is located at the belly button. Its element is fire, the same as the sun’s solar energy. The fire element rules will and power. A fire under your ass forces you to take action. Action comes from will.

This chakra charges our desires and will power. When we don’t feel in control of our choices or are over committed and have a hard time saying “no”, this is a good indicator that the solar plexus chakra is not providing enough will power.

Energize this chakra by imagining its yellow color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing yellow – full of power. Remind yourself that you have the power by repeating the mantra, “I am will”. A harmonious solar plexus charge will release the feeling of courage.

Heart chakra

heart text

The fourth chakra is called “heart” and it is located in the center of your chest. Its color is green. Its element is air. Just as air flows easily and fills every space, your heart pumps blood through every vein in your body. The air element rules freedom and space.

This chakra charges our openness to others and ourselves through love. When we withhold love from others, this is a good indicator that the heart chakra is cut from its air supply.

Energize this chakra by imagining its green color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing emerald green – full of power. Remind yourself that there is infinite space for love and that you are an infinite source by repeating the mantra, “I am love.” A harmonious heart charge will open up space in your heart and allow you to feel peace, centeredness, and to love deeply.

Throat chakra

throat text

The fifth chakra is called “throat” and is located in your throat. Its color is sky blue. Its element is ether or The Spirit. Ether is the upper region of air, above the clouds and closer to the divine.

This chakra charges sound, language, and communication. Communication is broken down into two parts: speaking and listening. This charge also pertains to receiving and relaying messages from the divine. When we feel misunderstood, fear expressing the truth or creativity.. this is a good indicator that the throat chakra is blocked from receiving messages.

Energize this chakra by imagining its sky blue color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing bright light blue – full of power. Remind yourself that you are a messenger of the divine by repeating the mantra, “I am sound.” A harmonious throat charge will allow full expression in all areas of your life.

Third Eye chakra

third eye text

The sixth chakra is called “third eye” and is located between your eyebrows in your pituitary gland which operates your vision and sinuses. Its color is indigo. Its element is light. The element of light rules the divine.

This chakra charges thought, memories, ideas, and awareness. Our ideas are simply a thought of what is going to happen and are seen as visionary messages from the divine. If you can see it, you can do it. If we fear trusting in our hearts, this is a good indicator that the third eye is blurry.

Energize this chakra by imagining its indigo color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing deep bluish-purple – full of power. Remind yourself that you are divinely guided  through the Universe by repeating the mantra, “I am light”. A harmonious charge of the third eye will bring clear inner vision and powerful manifesting.

Crown chakra

crown text

The seventh and last chakra is called “crown” and is located at the top of your head in your pineal gland which operates your brain and nervous system. Like a real crown, its color is gold. Its element is light as it rules the divine.

This chakra charges our connection to the divine and enlightenment. Think of this as the opening that funnels all of the light from the divine down through to all of your seven chakras. Fearing spiritual guidance and feeling separate from the divine is an indicator that the crown chakra is closed off.

Energize this chakra by imagining its golden color being energized by light to become a vibrant and glowing gold – full of power. Remind yourself that you are connected with the Universe as you are everything that it embodies by repeating the mantra, “I am”. A harmonious crown charge will feel a connection to the divine.

Let your body be the proof

Our bodies are an amazing reminder and proof that there are forces of energy bigger than us. We did not build these mechanics on our own. We do not turn our hearts on, nor do we have control over its pumping. It just is. Our chakras can be imagined as the battery packs connected to a greater source of energy from the divine. It’s important to recharge them so that we are high functioning beings. This leads to good health, well-being, and connection to a greater purpose.

Meditation and the chakras

Meditation is a great way to unblock and energize the seven chakras. During meditation, use your body as a reminder of its greater and infinite energy source. Your physical body is in the material realm, functioning as it should without any manual operation on your part. Allow yourself to focus now on energizing each chakra with unlimited light from the divine. Pull the light down from the top of your head and let it travel down to each chakra, focusing on the color getting brighter and brighter. Repeat the mantras that remind yourself of your divine creation. Expand the light and energy into each cell of your body, and feel good knowing that you have everything you need from the Universe to venture as far as necessary with infinite power.

Follow your heart wherever it takes you now

These last few weeks have been intense for everyone world-wide. Many of us are in completely different places and situations than we ever would have imagined months ago, including myself. I’ve felt an enormous shift in my priorities. As a result, I’ve miraculously been able to follow my heart. During these times of travel bans, tourism is on a global pause; and though my passion is sharing the magic of Paris with you, that passion bleeds into my spiritual work. I am discovering they are connected.

During lockdown, my witchy sister and I have been spending our days sharing our spiritual journeys and discoveries using tarot, astrology, and crystals. We have remained in an open and receptive mindset and have been blessed with powerful messages. It brings us great joy to share the insight we are being given now with others on our YouTube channel, Divine Like Magic.

If you found this helpful and insightful and you wish to dive deeper into energy healing, learn how the planets are aligning their energies, or connect with the tarot readings we’ve been getting, please go subscribe to our channel. In addition, you can also find us on Facebook and Instagram for daily inspiration.

I hope to connect with you deeper in this new world. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Stay positive and in the light. Be well.
